GCPA wants to perform Kushan Nritya on R-Day

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 2: The Greater Cooch Behar People's Association (GCPA) reiterated its demand to form a caretaker ministry for the proposed Greater Cooch Behar C-category state. Recently, submitting a memorandum to the President of India in New Delhi the GCPA president Mr Jyotiswar Roy sought permission of the President to form a caretaker ministry on the ensuing Republic Day for the interest of socio economic development of the ethnic people of the 'Greater Cooch Behar C-camp State'.

 

The GCPA also submitted similar memorandums to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister and sought co-operation of AICC chairperson Mrs Sonia Gandhi, AIYC president Mr Rahul Gandhi and Delhi chief minister Ms Sheila Dikshit to form the caretaker ministry, a GCPA spokesman Mr Chitta Ranjan Roy said. They have been organising a sit-in at Jantar-Mantar in New Delhi since 28 August 2006 with firm determination of fulfilment of their demand, Mr Roy said.

 

On the otherhand, GCPA general secretary Miss Namita Barman submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister seeking permission for participation in the Republic Day celebrations with cultural troupes for demonstration of a rich traditional culture of Cooch Behar namely 'Kushan Nritya'.

 

The GCPA spokesman said they are eagerly waiting for an invitation from the Union government about their request for performance of 'Kushan Nritya' at the Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi. []
