COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 2: Mr Biswarup Dey, joint secretary of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) and Mr Rajesh Kumar Sinha, district magistrate of Cooch Behar, inaugurated the four-day final match of Cooch Behar Trophy (Under-19 Cricket Tournament) at Cooch Behar Stadium today. The final match is being played between Jharkhand team and Gujarat team. The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) and the CAB are joint organisers of the tournament. This is the first time a final match of the Cooch Behar Trophy is being held in Cooch Behar.

Cooch Behar Trophy was introduced in 1945-46 under supervision of the BCCI. At the beginning the then Maharaja of Cooch Behar, Jagaddipendra Narayan donated a trophy for the tournament which was known as 'Cooch Behar Trophy' with inscription in front side 'Presented by His Highness Maharaja Bhup Bahadur of Cooch Behar' and on the back 'Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Challenge Cup – All India Schools Tournament'. Maharaja Jitendra Narayan was the father of Maharaja Jagaddipendra Narayan, the donor of the Trophy. Maharaja Jagaddipendra Narayan himself was a good cricketer and captained the Bengal Ranji team for many years and was runners up captain in 1943-44 Ranji Trophy final played in Bombay. []
