PTTI dharna : Day 7

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 4: The indefinite sit-in of the members of the All Bengal Primary Teachers Trainee Association (ABPTTA) entered its seventh day today. They have been demonstrating in front of the office of the District Primary School Council (DPSC) in Cooch Behar since Monday.

 

ABPTTA president Mr Bhajan Barman said the trained students of the Primary Teachers Training Institutes (PTTIs) would continue their movement till receiving of a written assurance over amicable settlement of their demands. Otherwise, they may start their pre-scheduled fast-unto-death programme that they shelved for some time. []

 

Railway service disrupted

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 4: Trinamul Congress supported Bhumihara Bastuhara Sangram Committee (BBSC) halted the Bangalore bound Guwahai-Bangalore Express at New Cooch Behar Railway Station for about an hour today. Plying of a few other trains was also disrupted following the agitation.

 

The agitators submitted a memorandum containing a four-point charter of demands to the Divisional Railway Manager, Alipurduar Division of North East Frontier Railway through the Station Manager of New Cooch Behar Railway Station. BBSC leader Kumar Rajib Narayan, Mr Mrinal Kanti Chanda, Mr Tarun Roy and Mr Arjun Das spoke at the gathering organised at the New Cooch Behar Railway Station premises.

 

BBSC leader Kumar Rajib Narayan said they organised today's agitation demanding payment against lands acquired for the New Mainaguri-Jogighopa Railway Project by existing market price. The persons whose lands were acquired but received no compensation till now should be paid immediately and a rehabilitation package should be announced immediately. A member from each family whose lands were acquired should get a job in the railways, he argued. []

 

Fire Station demanded

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 4: Tufanganj-II block convention of the Trinamul Congress was held at Baxirhat in Cooch Behar today. Speaking at the convention the Trinamul leaders demanded setting up of a fire service station at Baxirhat, construction of a bridge over Gadadhar river at Saldanga and revival of the market replacing the site of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya at Tufanganj. State Trinamul Congress secretary Md Abdul Jalil Ahmed, district president Mr Rabi Ghosh and vice-president Mr Niranjan Dutta were among the speakers. []
