Bamboo traders' rally in Cooch Behar

 

COOCH BEHAR, Nov. 4: Cooch Behar Raasmela Math Bash Bazar Samity (CRMBBS) organised a protest rally in Cooch Behar town today. They were protesting against the ongoing construction of boundary wall surrounding the Raas Mela Maidan. As the bamboo market runs on the Raas Mela Maidan in the town the boundary wall may affect the traders and others related with the trade - directly or indirectly, the secretary of the CRMBBS Mr Kalicharan Barman alleged.

 

Joint convenor of Jiban-O-Jibika Raksha Committee Mr Nepal Mitra said one thousand or more people would be affected if the market fails to run. Though the bamboo market runs at the Raas Mela Maidan the bamboo traders shift their business during the Raas Mela or any other programme like mass meeting organised in that ground, he clarified. It is inhuman to try to evict the bamboo traders without arranging an alternative place for them, he opined. []
