Woman robbed of Rs 14,000

 

COOCH BEHAR, July 7: A housewife became prey of a female-swindler and lost Rs 14,000 today. The victim woman is now undergoing medical care at MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar.

 

It was learnt that Mrs Jyotsna Das, a resident of Dhalpal in Tufanganj came to Cooch Behar town today and withdrew Rs 14,000 from her account from Cooch Behar Head Post Office. Later, she was found in an unconscious state in a narrow lane near the LIC office. Locals shifted her to MJN Hospital. As she failed to talk easily to the doctors or the family members it was suspected that she was administered with a strong dose of any sedative drug.

 

On being conveyed of the incident Mrs Das's father-in-law, Mr Jugal Das and other family members rushed to the hospital. Mr Das said his son who is engaged in an outside place sends money to his daughter-in-law every month. Today, she came to withdraw the money from the post office. From then on a woman started accompanying her and later his daughter-in-law was left in an unconscious state at a lane. The money was also missing.

 

Cooch Behar Kotowali Police started a probe into the matter but no one was arrested till this evening. []

 

Dewanhat College

 

COOCH BEHAR, July 7: Dewanhat College in Cooch Behar got approval to offer honours courses in Bengali and Sanskrit from the new academic session. Thirty students will be able to take admission in each of the subjects. Secretary of the governing body of the college, Mr Jnanendra Chandra Chanda said they had sought approval from the North Bengal University to add honours courses in English, History, Bengali and Sanskrit and received approval for two subjects. The university may approve honours facilities in other subjects from the next academic session, he hoped.

 

Dewanhat College is situated in a remote rural area. It was established in an aim to offer opportunities to the rural students to continue higher studies after completion of school education. It started functioning from the last academic session with pass subjects like Political Science, History, Sanskrit, Bengali and English. The roll strength of the college in the last session was 270 and it may increase from the new session. There are seven teachers including the principal but five of the teachers are guest teachers.

 

The new building of Dewanhat College is under construction. It may be completed by the pujas, Mr Chanda hoped. []
