COOCH BEHAR, May 8: A second indoor stadium is coming up at the prestigious Maharaja Shri Jitendra Narayan Club premises in Cooch Behar. It will be named as Maharaja Shri Jagaddipendra Narayan Indoor Stadium to pay respect to the last ruler of Cooch Behar royal dynasty.
It is expected that the under-construction stadium may be able to keep parity with the heritage buildings and constructions of Cooch Behar. The estimated cost for erecting of the new indoor stadium is Rs 28-lakh. The construction work of this stadium is at its last phase now.
Mentionworthy, the first indoor stadium (Netaji Subhas Indoor Stadium) situated at the Royal Palace complex adjacent to Cooch Behar Stadium was inaugurated in 2005 but it is yet to be a fully operational one. It may be completed by June of this year.
There was a stadium named Maharaja Jitendra Narayan Stadium in the town. Later, a new one named Cooch Behar Stadium came up at the Royal Palace complex. From now on the citizens especially the sports loving people of Cooch Behar may boast of two stadiums and two indoor stadiums in this heritage town. []
