ELECTION

Poll fight among family members

 

COOCH BEHAR, May 8: A few cases of fight among members of same families in the panchayat elections made residents of the villages concerned curious about the outcome of the result. The other members of the families concerned turned perplexed about whom to support in the ballot paper.

 

In Booth no. 110 of Angarkata-Paradubi gram panchayat under Mathabhanga-II block five members of a single family are fighting in the elections in panchayat samiti and gram panchayat seats. They are – Mr Indra Mohan Barman (GCDP), Mr Brajen Barman (Congress), Ms Parbati Barman (Trinamul Congress) and Ms Shibani Barman (Congress) filed their nominations in gram panchayat tier while the BJP fielded Ms Latika Barman in panchayat samiti seat. In the family they are united but politically of different ideals. The total number of voters in the house is thirty-three.

 

In Chamta gram panchayat of Sitai block a mother, Ms Basanti Barman (Forward Bloc) is contesting against her daughter Ms Pratima Barman (CPI-M supported independent candidate). There is a Congress candidate in this seat but the main fight is between the mother and the daughter.

 

In Chilakhana-II gram panchayat of Tufanganj, Mr Ajit Sarkar (BJP) is contesting against his elder brother Mr Sunil Sarkar (CPI-M). []
