EX-SERVICEMEN'S DEMAND

Ex-servicemen's demonstration

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 9: Demanding engagement of ex-servicemen as security personnel in the government hospitals the members of District Ex-servicemen's Association (DESA) staged a demonstration at the office of the chief medical officer of health (CMOH) in Cooch Behar today.

General secretary of DESA Mr Tapan Chaudhury said there was a government directive to appointment ex-servicemen as security personnel in the government hospitals but it was being violated for a long. Inexperienced youths are being engaged in the posts of securitymen. He demanded immediate end of this step-motherly attitude.

Submitting a memorandum containing a four-point charter of demands the DESA has demanded Rs 3,500 as monthly wage to a casual ex-serviceman working as a securityman. They also demanded appointment of ex-servicemen in the casual posts of security personnel in the hospitals through the Ex-servicemen's Co-operative Society instead of inexperienced contractors.

Mr Chaudhury said the CMOH heard their points and assured them that he would consider their demands. []
