TUFANGANJ DOLMELA

Tufanganj celebrates 118 year of Dolmela

COOCH BEHAR, March 8: The 15-day long historic Dolmela of Tufanganj is to begin on Tuesday. Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati Mr Dilip Biswas will inaugurate the fair. It is 118-th year of the Dolmela.

In 1893, the then ruler of Cooch Behar, Maharaja Nripendra Narayan, established the temple of Lord Giridharilal Gopiballav on the west bank of Raidak river. From then on a weeklong fair (Dolmela) has been going on. Now it is a fortnight-long event. It is believed that the first temple of Lord Giridharilal Gopiballav that was established by Maharaja Lakshmi Narayan was at the same site. Since 1980, Tufanganj Dolmela Committee is organising the fair on the occasion of Dol Yatra of Lord Madan Mohan in association with Tufanganj Municipality, Tufanganj-I Panchayat Samity and Nakkatigachh gram panchayat.
