DINHATA POLICE FIRING PROBE

Dinhata Police Firing : Second phase of hearing starts

 

COOCH BEHAR, March 7: The second phase of hearing of Justice Narayan C Sil Commission of Inquiry on Dinhata police firing began today at Circuit House in Cooch Behar.

Today, three witnesses have been cross-examined. They are Mr Kamal Chandra Barman, Mr Chandan Kumar Roy and Mr Nepal Roy. Three other witnesses will be questioned in the court tomorrow.

District Forward Bloc secretary Mr Udayan Guha said they already submitted an appeal to the Commission stating that it would not be possible for them to take part in the proceeding of the court as the Lok Sabha poll declared. Chairman of the Commission, Justice Sil is yet to convey his decision to them, Mr Guha said.

The Justice Narayan C Sil Commission was constituted to conduct a judicial probe into the police firing that took place on 5 February last year in Dinhata during a law violation programme organised by the Forward Bloc.
