8-year RI to five for killing a neighbour

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 12: District and sessions judge of Cooch Behar, Mr KYS Manhas sentenced five men to 8-year rigorous imprisonment for killing a neighbour.

 

Court sources said, enraged with a childish act of Mamoni Khatun, a 5-year-old niece of Azimuddin Sheikh, a neighbour Latif Mian and five of his accomplices hacked Azimuddin with sharp daos on 29 September 2006 at Laukuthi village under Baxirhat police station. On the next day the injured Azimuddin expired at MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar. A complaint was lodged against six men at Baxirhat police station on 30 September 2006.

 

Today, the judge sentenced Latif Mian, Hazrat Ali, Abdul Haq, Alauddin Mian and Aziz Mian to 8-year rigorous imprisonment. They will have to suffer an additional RI of six months in default of paying fine of Rs 2000 slapped on each of them. Another accused, Firoz Ali was discharged as innocent. Public prosecutor Mr Ganesh Chandra Roy Karmakar was on the government side in this case. []
