Ex-Servicemen's conference in Cooch Behar
COOCH BEHAR, Nov. 9: Fifth triennial conference of District Ex-Servicemen's Association was held at Sukanta Mancha in Cooch Behar today. Sabhadhipati of Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad Mr Dilip Kumar Biswas inaugurated the conference. Commanding Officer of 15 Garohwal Rifles, Lt Col Joby Joseph and other dignitaries attended the inaugural session. District unit secretary Mr Tapan Choudhury delivered the welcome address and tabled the secretarial report. About 300 delegates participated in the daylong conference.
In his inaugural address the CZP sabhadhipati Mr Biswas mentioned the praiseworthy role of the soldiers and martyrs who dedicated their lives for maintaining the independence and sovereignty of the country. He called upon all to maintain national integration by combating the secessionist and divisive forces that are raising their heads in north Bengal and other parts of the country.
In the conference discussions were held over a 13-point charter of demands. It was decided that the association would organise movements demanding rehabilitation of all ex-servicemen by the government, formation of Zilla Sainik Board in Cooch Behar, provision of ex-gratia for festivals, housing facility for ex-servicemen in Cooch Behar town.
