"Rail Roko" at New Cooch Behar

 

COOCH BEHAR, July 9: Demanding stoppage of Kolkata-Guwahati 'Garib Rath' at New Cooch Behar Railway Station and extension of plying of Uttar Banga Express upto Cooch Behar town Railway Station the activists of the Chhatra Parishad, the students' wing of the Congress, staged a 'Rail Roko' demonstration at New Cooch Behar Railway Station today.

 

The agitators halted running of Kolkata bound Tista Torsa Express at the station for about 100-minuit starting from 11-30 a.m., claimed the president of the Chhatra Parishad's Cooch Behar district unit, Mr Rakesh Choudhury.

 

Mr Choudhury said, the Guwahati-Kolkata 'Garib Rath' was put into service for the poor, downtrodden and common people. It should stop at New Cooch Behar for the benefit of the people of this region. On the otherhand, the Uttar Banga Express terminates at New Cooch Behar Railway Station. As Cooch Behar is a heritage town the plying of Uttar Banga Express should be extended upto Cooch Behar Railway Station, he demanded.

 

During the demonstration, the Chhatra Parishad activists submitted a memorandum containing their demands to the Divisional Railway Manager, Alipurduar, Northeast Frontier Railway, through the station superintendent of New Cooch Behar Railway Station. []
