COOCH BEHAR, May 7: The Forward Bloc openly declared that they will engage in a 'friendly fight' with the CPI-M in two Zilla Parishad seats out of total twenty-nine seats. But this 'friendly fight' is not confined in two ZP seats only. They entered into alliances with the Congress and the Trinamul Congress in many gram panchayat and Panchayat Samiti seats too to fight against the CPI-M. Leaders of the parties concerned however refused to officially admit of these alliances. On the otherhand, CPI-M sources termed the formation of these alliances as unfortunate.
In Dinhata-I block alliances were formed against the CPI-M in Dinhata Village-II, Bhetaguri-I, Bhetaguri-II, Atiabari-I and Putimari-I gram panchayats. In Dinhata-II block alliances came up at Bamanhat-I and Sahebganj gram panchayats.
It was learnt that at the ten seats in Atiabari-I GP the Congress fielded candidates in seven seats and the Forward Bloc in three seats. In Putimari-I GP the FB and the Congress equally shared the twelve seats. In Bhetaguri-I GP the Congress fielded candidates in four seats and the FB in five seats. In Bhetaguri-II GP the FB and the Congress equally shared ten seats and extended support to two independent candidates. In Dinhata Village-II GP the Trinamul Congress candidates are contesting at five seats and the FB at seven seats.
In Bamanhat-I GP of Dinhata-II block alliance was formed with the Congress, the Trinamul Congress and the Forward Bloc. Here the Forward Bloc is contesting at six seats while the Trinamul Congress fielded candidates at four seats and the Congress at one seat. At Sahebganj GP of this block Congress fielded candidates in nine seats and the Forward Bloc in six seats.
Though the formation of anti-CPI-M alliance is an open secret the leaders of the Forward Bloc, the Congress and the Trinamul Congress preferred to keep mum to the matter. "You know what is happening and the ultimate aim of us is to pull down the CPI-M from power. If local leaders of the parties concerned entered into alliances they did no wrong", a senior Congress leader commented. []
