Visit for a women's college

 

ALIPURDUAR, Feb. 28: A two-member team from West Bengal Council for Higher Education visited Alipurduar in Jalpaiguri district today. The team members – Dr Jibendu Roy and Ms Papiya Bannerjee visited the demarcated site of the proposed women's college at New Town in Alipurduar. They also visited the Alipurduar Collegiate School where the proposed women's college is scheduled to function from the next academic session till erection of its own building.

 

Alipurduar MLA Mr Nirmal Das said the team members verified the reserve fund of Rs 13-lakh of the college and inquired different aspects for setting up of the women's college. The fund is needed before launching a college. Mr Das said the citizens of Alipurduar were trying to establish the women's college for the past eight years. Meanwhile, Alipurduar MP Mr Joachim Buxla extended Rs 25-lakh and Mr Das gave Rs 15-lakh from their local area development funds to build up the college in Alipurduar. Assistance from Uttar Banga Unnayan Parshad is also expected, he added. []
