Maoist leader produced at Alipurduar court

 

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 29: A top ranking Maoist leader, Mr Patit Paban Haldar was produced at the court of additional chief judicial magistrate in Alipurduar, Jalpaiguri today. The judge, Mr Nirvan Khesang sent him to judicial custody for fourteen days.

 

According to Mr Samir Majumder, the government pleader of the case, the Maoist leader was produced in the court today in connection with a case of 2004. Following a meeting of top ULFA and KLO leaders held at a residence at South Shibkata village of Dakshin Salsalabari in Alipurduar two persons were arrested. During interrogation the arrested duo reportedly disclosed names and whereabouts of a few top-ranking leaders to the police. Following their disclosure the police came to know about Mr Haldar.

 

Police brought in the Maoist leader by Tista Torsa Express from Presidency Jail in Kolkata today. There he was suffering a life term in connection with another case related to a landmine explosion in Belpahari. A huge gathering was there at the Alipurduar court premises today to see the Maoist leader. A large contingent of police force was deployed to keep the situation under control. As no lawyer stood on behalf of the Maoist leader the court remanded him to judicial custody for fourteen days. []
