COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 8: All Bengal Primary Teachers' Trainee Association (ABPTTA) demanded unconditional release of its members who were arrested at Midnapore yesterday. They also demanded withdrawal of all charges brought against their 14 members.
President of ABPTTA Mr Bhajan Barman said many of their members were arrested at Midnapore yesterday when they were demonstrating as in other districts demanding appointment of trained candidates in the vacant posts in primary schools.
Today, the ABPTTA members demonstrated at the office of the Cooch Behar District Primary School Council (DPSC) and submitted a memorandum containing three-point charter of demands to the chairman of the DPSC Md Nuruddin Mian. Such programmes were organised in other districts too, Mr Barman claimed.
During their agitation they made the office defunct and the employees come out of the office. The DPSC chairman told them that the next hearing of the case related to the recognition of 122 Primary Teachers' Training Institutes (PTTI) will be held at the High Court on 29 February and the agitators should maintain patience till then. He also agreed about non-appointment of non-trained candidates and para-teachers in the primary schools in Cooch Behar district, Mr Barman said. []
