Dr Ghosh said they planned of sit-in agitations to start from yesterday in front of the residence of vice-chancellor, Prof MK Majumder but that was suspended because the VC left for Kolkata 'secretly' on Saturday. Youth League to launch massive stir
COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 18: The youth front of Forward Bloc, All India Youth League (AIYL) is going to start a massive movement against various policies of the ruling Left Front government. General secretary of state unit of AIYL, Mr Anirban Chaudhury declared the movement plan at Cooch Behar today.
Mr Chaudhury alleged that the state government is functioning in the style of Mohammad Bin Tughlaq. It is engaged in acquiring cultivable lands forcefully from farmers to gift that to the industrialists. "We must oppose this practice", he said. He declared that the AIYL would organise a central rally in Kolkata on 28 March. From that rally they will raise demand to set up agriculture-based industries. The sites for those units should be decided after discussing the proposals with all concerned.
Alleging that the healthcare facilities in the government-run hospitals and health centres in this state are suffering from various disorders, the AIYL leader said it became a practice to refer almost all acute cases to medical colleges. There is a dearth of doctors and nurses. The blood banks are not functioning well. "We are not in a mood to allow these any more."
The AIYL leader alleged that the police stations in this state are functioning following diktats of a certain political party (read CPI-M). The police stations turned into their clubrooms. The police should work impartially.
The NREGA scheme that was introduced to ensure job for at least 100 days in a year is suffering from widespread corruption. Soon, the AIYL supporters will gherao the gram panchayat offices concerned demanding the accounts of the scheme.
Mr Chaudhury demanded disbursing of ration to the registered unemployed youths. If the policemen can get money in lieu of ration why that should not be done for the unemployed youths, he questioned. They should get loans on flexible terms to start businesses to get self reliant, he opined.
The AIYL is going to organise a convention at Siliguri on 31 January where delegates will come from all the six north Bengal districts. In that convention next plan of action will be decided, the state AIYL general secretary declared. []
