GCPA case hearing

 

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 18: The hearing of two cases related to the movement of The Greater Cooch Behar People's Association (GCPA) was differed today at the court of District and Sessions Judge, Ms Anindita Roy Saraswati. As two witnesses failed to appear in the court the judge fixed 14 January as the next date of hearing.

 

The lawyer of GCPA, Mr Shibendra Nath Roy said seventeen accused including GCPA leader Mr Bangshi Badan Barman were produced in the court that was held inside Cooch Behar District Correctional Home today. Public Prosecutor Mr Ganesh Chandra Roy Karmakar was on the government side.

 

The two cases against GCPA men are related with damaging of government property and bid to blaze a petrol pump. The incidents occurred during a movement of GCPA dated back on 20 September 2005. []

 

Power demonstration

 

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 18: Members of All Bengal Electricity Consumers' Association (ABECA) organised a demonstration at the office of West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (WBSEDCL) in Cooch Behar today. They were demanding withdrawal of the order to collect arrear bills from the consumers for the last three years. Submitting a memorandum they also demanded an end of regular power cut. []

 

Govt employees' state meet ends

 

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 18: The four-day state conference of Joint Council of the State Government Employees' Associations and Unions (popularly known as Joint Council) was concluded at Alipurduar yesterday. Mr Ranajit Roy and Mr Kuntal Kanti Mandal were re-elected as president and general secretary in the newly constituted 72-member central committee. []
