Lifer to wife-killer

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 20: The additional district and sessions judge, second fast track court, Dinhata, Mr Golam Ambia today sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife in 2006.

The man, Babul Chandra Dey, a resident of Dinhata killed his wife Kuntala Dey on 7 May 2006. After committing the crime he had surrendered to the police. During the legal procedure 17 witnesses have been examined in the court. The main witnesses in the case were the son and daughter of the accused - Bibhan of Class III and Snigdha of Class V. In the court they narrated how their father killed their mother.

The judge also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 in default the convicted man will have to suffer an additional six months of imprisonment.
