PARESH ADHIKARY

'MR shop owner steals, staff suffers'

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 29: State food and supply minister Mr Paresh Adhikary came down heavily on the owners of the modified ration shops. He alleged that the owners used to pass the blame of corruption on the employees of the MR shops when they landed into trouble.

The minister was addressing at the first conference of the Pashchim Banga Ration Dokan Karmochari Union at Rabindra Bhavan in Cooch Behar today.

The minister said when inspectors of his department visit any MR shop the owner usually made him absent from the shop. "During surprise visits I also experienced this", he said. During the inspection process the employees have to suffer the first brunt if any defalcation unearthed. As an employee of a shop one have to obey the instructions of the owner concerned and shoulder the trouble too though they have no documents to prove their appointments. If the employees build up a strong organisation they may face the trouble boldly, Mr Adhikary opined.

The minister asked the employees to co-operate with people eager to get ration cards but they should not promise one to get him the card. This type of work may weaken the organisation.

Cooch Behar (North) MLA Mr Dipak Sarkar too alleged that the MR shop owners enjoy the dividend of theft of goods but the employees have to bear the blame and even punishment. []
