BANGLA BANDH !

Bandh call against bandh

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 22: The local traders of Tufanganj called a bandh there on Saturday in protest against ransacking of three shops and damaging of a lorry during the SUCI sponsored bandh today. In Mathabhanga, four persons were injured when a clash occurred between CPI-M and SUCI supporters at the court premises.

Cooch Behar SP Mr Devendra Prakash Singh said police arrested 108 picketers during the bandh in Cooch Behar district though SUCI sources claimed more supporters have been arrested.

Almost all shops except those dealing with flowers, medicines, fruits and sweets kept their shutters down in Cooch Behar town today. A few buses of the NBSTC plied but there were almost no passenger on board. Police assisted opening of the gates of the government offices by chasing out pro-bandh picketers but the attendance was less than normal. The main branch of the State Bank on east bank of Sagardighi was found closed as in every bandh. Functioning of educational institutions has been affected due to the bandh.
