BOOK FAIR

Academic Book Fair begins

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 16: A two-day Academic Book Fair began at Acharya Brajendra Nath Seal College campus in Cooch Behar today. Twelve publishers and booksellers from Kolkata, Siliguri and Cooch Behar have come to attend the book fair with thousands of academic books. The speciality of this book fair is that one can get no ordinary book from here but books meant for the curricula of colleges and universities.

Today, additional district magistrate (general) Mr PK Pal inaugurated the book fair. Prof DK Naha, head of the department of Bengali, Presidency College, was present as the chief guest. Dr Nilay Ray, officer-in-charge, ABN Seal College, presided over the inaugural ceremony.

There are books meant only for colleges and universities in this academic book fair. The books on display are on about fifteen subjects and various topics. The students and teachers are to get discounts against purchases from this book fair, the organisers said. Not only the teachers and the students of the ABN Seal College but also from different colleges of Cooch Behar district came to the book fair.

Officer-in-charge of the ABN Seal College, Dr Nilay Ray claimed that this is the first time such a book fair was organised in north Bengal. He said, "As we live at great distance from Kolkata our students seldom get chance to visit places like College Street. Aiming to bridge the gap we made an appeal to the academic book publishers and they responded." Mr Ray believes the students will be greatly benefited from this two-day book fair as they have an opportunity to see and buy any book according to their choice. []
