LEFT FRONT RALLY

Biman Bose in Cooch Behar

COOCH BEHAR, Nov. 1: Cooch Behar district Left Front organised a mammoth gathering at Raas Mela Maidan in Cooch Behar today. State Left Front chairman Mr Biman Bose was the chief speaker at the gathering. The meeting was organised to stage protest against Trinamul Congress' ploy to disturb peace in Cooch Behar district and also to demand industrialisation for total development.

Without naming the Trinamul Congress in his address Mr Bose alleged that the so-called friends of the farmers hatched 'agriculture versus industry' situation in this state and armed with that they are breaching the peace. They are trying to launch an artificial peasant movement here, he alleged. It is nothing but weeping of crocodiles, he retorted. The leftists are the real friends of the peasants and they proved it by massive land reforms in this state, he claimed.

The Left Front chairman said hatred among different races and secessionism have been raising their ugly heads in this country. Immediate steps to combat these unholy forces are required in the greater interest of the country otherwise the country will have to face disaster.

Mr Bose criticised the Centre for its failure to keep alive the public distribution system. He alleged that the Centre is trying to discard the PD system. West Bengal has weakness in the PD system but it is still working here, he claimed.

Mr Bose, who is also the state CPI-M secretary, claimed that the economy of the country is still alive because of the movement of the leftist forces.

While talking with the media persons the state LF chairman held the Centre and the intelligence agencies responsible for the explosions and violent situations in Assam. As Assam is the neighbouring state of West Bengal the state administration should be more alert to get rid of such situations, he opined. []
