Girl killed in BSF firing, two hurt

 

COOCH BEHAR, July 21: A 10-year-old girl named Khaleda Khatun died of BSF firing and two other villagers were wounded at Paglimari border outpost area under Sitalkuchi police station in Cooch Behar district on Monday afternoon.

 

Police said a dispute brew up in the village initially between a woman and BSF jawans over grazing of cattle near the Indo-Bangladesh border in the afternoon. At the peak of the quarrel the BSF jawans allegedly opened fire on the angry villagers resulting death of a minor girl. A large contingent of police force led by the sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) of Mathabhanga Mr Ananda Roy rushed to the spot to control the agitated villagers. Mr Roy said the situation is now under control.

 

The district magistrate of Cooch Behar, Mr Rajesh Kumar Sinha sought a detailed report into the incident.
