TROUBLE

Body found, Tufanganj tense, BSF deployed, bandh call

TUFANGANJ (Cooch Behar), June 14: Tufanganj turned tense one again since this morning after recovery of a body stated to be of a Trinamul Congress supporter. A large contingent of police alongwith BSF was deployed in the area to maintain law and order.

It was learnt that the body of one Abu Bakkar Siddiqi (52) alias Danab Ali was found in a waterlogged paddy field near his residence at Chulkani Bazar of Uttar Deocharai village this morning. Trinamul Congress sources alleged that he was strangled to death. They blamed the CPI-M for the crime.

Claiming the man as their supporter, Trinamul Congress activists started organising rallies protesting the incident and arrest of offenders.

District Trinamul Congress vice-president Mt Niranjan Dutta held the CPI-M responsible for the crime and announced that a 24-hour bandh would be held at Deocharai Gram Panchayat area tomorrow.

Senior police officials rushed to the spot but they denied making any comment before completion of post-mortem of the body.

It may be recalled that violence occurred between CPI-M and Trinamul Congress supporters at Nakkatigachh area of Tufanganj on Wednesday night. One college student was killed and several others were injured in that incident. Section 144 CrPC was promulgated and BSF had to be deployed to maintain peace. []
