Forward Bloc's allegation against police role

COOCH BEHAR, May 2: "The Cooch Behar Police is working in a manner to please someone. They are working against the Forward Bloc. The undue security cover extended to many is being used for terrorising people." This allegation came from none but a Left Front partner – Forward Bloc. The police however evaded questions over the matter.

Today, Forward Bloc's Cooch Behar district secretary Mr Udayan Guha and the party's Cooch Behar (North) MLA Mr Dipak Sarkar alleged that the police is working in a partisan manner against the Forward Bloc at different areas including Sitalkuchi, Sitai, Dinhata-I, Dinhata-II and Nayarhat in the district.

Mr Guha said they conveyed specific complaints to the superintendent of police but he took no remedial measure to stop the menace. The FB leader alleged that police provided undue security cover to many persons of a certain political party. These privileged persons are using the security persons and the arms for threatening their political opponents. "You may get threatened if you lodge complaints against such incidents. Such an incident occurred at Burirhat yesterday and at Choudhurihat and Adabari a few days ago", Mr Guha said. "We want police to work impartially and security personnel should not be used in favour of any certain party", he demanded.

Mr Guha said, in some seats in Cooch Behar district the CPI-M and the Forward Bloc are contesting against each other but police should not act in favour of a single party. "We are also a partner of the ruling Left Front", he said.

Today, the Forward Bloc leaders sat with the CPI-M leaders at the latter's district office and discussed the role of the police. Mr Guha said, Forward Bloc's MLA Mr Dipak Sarkar and CPI-M's MP Mr Tarini Roy were entrusted to submit a written complaint to the Cooch Behar SP.

On the otherhand, media persons from different TV channels and newspapers tried to meet the Cooch Behar SP Mr Anil Kumar this noon but he denied entertaining them. He even refused to meet them at his official residence. After a long wait he came out from the residence but drove away without answering any question of the reporters that were waiting outside of the complex. []
