New Collectorate Building inaugurated

COOCH BEHAR, April 12: The divisional commissioner, Jalpaiguri, Mr Beharilal Meena inaugurated the New Collectorate Building in Cooch Behar on Saturday afternoon. The new building will house the district magistrate's office and offices of a few state government departments. The Rs 1.80-crore building took about fourteen years to get completed. It is situated beside the 'heritage' Collectorate Building on the west bank of Sagardighi.

Inaugurating the building the divisional commissioner, Jalpaiguri, said the state government extended a fund of about Rs 2-crore to erect the building. Chairman of the third West Bengal State Finance Commission Dr Sukhabilas Barma emphasised on the necessity of clean and well-decorated government offices. Span of fourteen years is too long to make such an office in this age of advanced technology, he opined.

District magistrate of Cooch Behar Mr Rajesh Kumar Sinha said a compact complex was needed to accommodate various offices under the district magistrate's jurisdiction. "I am happy to make the building completed during my term", he said. []
