International Mother-tongue Day observed

 

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 21: International Mother-tongue Day was observed at the conference hall of Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad today. The CZP and District Information and Cultural Affairs department jointly organised the programme. The teachers, students and employees of Acharya Brajendra Nath Seal College too observed the day. Seminars on the relevance of celebration of International Mother-tongue Day and place of Bengali language at International arena were also held on the occasion.

 

Submitting a memorandum to the Governor through the district magistrate, the Cooch Behar district unit of Amra Bangalee demanded using of Bengali language as the medium in schools, colleges and universities and introduction of Bengali as the official language in offices and courts. They also demanded formation of Bengali Regiment in the Army. []

 

Bharat Jyoti Award

 

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 21: An eminent social worker and also an AICC member from Cooch Behar, Mrs Sabita Roy was declared as the recipient of the coveted Bharat Jyoti Award. The award will be conferred to her at New Delhi on 28 March. Conveying the news of her selection for the award, on behalf of India International Friendship Society, Mr Gurmeet Singh said they considered Mrs Roy for the award after considering her fight in life and her worthy example that inspired others towards certain achievement. []
