Market fire in Dinhata leaves 13 shops gutted
COOCH BEHAR, March 4: Two incidents of devastating fire occurred in Dinhata sub-division since last night.
Fire broke out at a local market named Munsirhat along Rangpur Road at the outskirts of Dinhata town last night. Seven shops gutted in the incident. On being informed the fire fighters rushed to the spot and pressed three engines to douse the fire. It took them about three hours to tame the blaze. Locals claimed that the total estimated loss was more than Rs 1.5-lakh.
The other incident took place at Exchange Road in the midst of Dinhata town. Fire broke out here at the wee hours of today. A local clubhouse and six shops including a grocery, a tailoring shop and a pathological laboratory have been totally gutted in the inferno. Three fire engines rushed from Dinhata Fire Service Station and doused the fire after about three hours of struggle. It is believed that the total loss was worth about Rs 2.5-lakh.
The fire fighters and police are yet to ascertain the actual reasons behind the incidents. It is suspected that the fire broke out following electrical short circuit. Locals demanded more sophisticated arrangements in Dinhata town to meet the incidents of fire.
