Panchanan remembered

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 13: 143-rd birth anniversary of the legendary social reformer of the region, Panchanan Barma was observed at Panchanan Morh and Khalisamari in Mathabhanga today.

State backward classes welfare minister Mr Jogesh Barman inaugurated the programme while forest minister Mr Ananta Roy, Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad sabhadhipati Mr Dilip Biswas and other dignitaries attended. Memorial lectures and cultural programmes were also organised on the occasion.

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 13: State forest minister Mr Ananta Roy inaugurated the 27-th annual competitive show of flowers, fruits, vegetables and medicinal plants at Narendra Narayan Park in Cooch Behar today.

Dinhata firing : hearing starts

COOCH BEHAR, Feb. 13: The Justice Narayan C Sil Commission of Inquiry on Dinhata police firing is to start it's hearing at Circuit House in Cooch Behar from tomorrow. It was learnt that six witnesses have been summoned for the hearing tomorrow.

Earlier, district Forward Bloc secretary Mr Udayan Guha had expressed his desire to the Justice that he personally wants to appear before the Commission in Kolkata instead of Cooch Behar. He is yet to be summoned for the hearing. But, Mr Guha will attend the hearing tomorrow on behalf of a summoned person named Mr Nasiruddin Sarkar.
