Tax free zone status demanded
COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 20: The Tax Free Zone Demand Committee for North Bengal sent a fax message to the Prime Minister today urging him to consider declaring north Bengal a tax-free zone in the ensuing Union Budget.
As north Bengal has no mentionable industry or any other scope to generate employment the tax-free zone status once extended to north Bengal may help flourishing of new industrial units and by that the unemployment problem may decrease in this region, argued the convenor of the TFZDCNB in the memorandum.
The TFZDCNB sent copies of the memorandum to the Union commerce and industries minister, the chief minister and the chairman of the Planning Commission.
