EXPLOSION

Explosion : 2 brothers hurt

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 25: In an explosion two brothers injured at Sonapur under Alipurduar police station in Jalpaiguri district this afternoon.

It was learnt that two brothers Rabi Oraon (8) and Gautam Oraon (6) were playing cricket near Sonapur Chaupathi this afternoon. During play the ball went to a bush behind a haircutting saloon. When they were beating the bush with bats to seek the ball they hit a plastic jar. It suddenly exploded and they got severe injury. Locals rushed to the spot and rescued them. Condition of Rabi is very serious.

Soon after the incident, Alipurduar ASP Mr Sabyasachi Raman Mishra rushed to the area with a large contingent of police force. They sent the injured boys to the MJN Hospital in Cooch Behar. During search operation they recovered two more jars filled with live bombs. The bombs were defused.

Police said the bombs were of country made. It is suspected that local miscreants may have kept those in that place for committing crime in future. As today is the day before the Republic Day the police took no chance and search operation is on in the adjoining areas. A few locals were questioned. []
