DRIVE AGAINST GANJA

Ganja plants uprooted, destroyed

COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 14: In a massive drive against illegal plantation of ganja in Mathabhanga sub-division of Cooch Behar, police uprooted numerous ganja plants and destroyed those.

 

Today, a large police force led by Cooch Behar SP Mr Devedra Prakash Singh, ASP Mr Ashes Biswas and Mathabhanga SDPO Mr Ananda Roy accompanied by senior excise department officials raided a ganja plantation at Bhawer-thana in Mathabhanga. They uprooted green and matured ganja plants from about 500-bigha char-land adjacent to Mansai river and blazed those.

 

Yesterday too, Mathabhanga SDPO Mr Ananda Roy led a massive drive at Bhojaner-chhara in Mathabhanga-II. They destroyed ganja plants uprooted from about 50-bigha char-land near Mansai river.

 

The drive to destroy ganja plantation from different areas may continue for a few more days as the ganja flower-spikes are being matured for plucking and illegal trading, police sources said. []
