SYMPOSIUM ON TERRORISM

Symposium on the danger of terrorism

A symposium on 'terrorism, state and civil society' was held at the auditorium of the Red Cross Bhavan in Cooch Behar on Sunday. Uttar Prasanga, a socio-economic analytical quarterly journal organised the programme. The perspective of the symposium was the recent terrorist attack in Mumbai.

Dr Ananda Gopal Ghosh of North Bengal University inaugurated the programme. Among the speakers there were ex-minister Dinesh Dakua, ex-MP Prasenjit Barman, Prof Amlan Jyoti Majumder, educationist Md Bazle Rahman. A senior journalist Gautam Sarkar conducted the symposium as the motivator. Editor of Uttar Prasanga Debabrata Chaki presented the welcome address.

Dr Ananda Gopal Ghosh thanked the organisers for holding such a symposium. After the Mumbai incident no such symposium was held in any district in north Bengal against terrorism, he said. The Uttar Prasanga authority did the right thing at this moment, he opined. The terrorist activities have put the Indians at a point of uncertainty about their security. No one can stay away from it because everyone has responsibility to the country. He demanded that the source of the ongoing terrorism should be unearthed.

Ex-minister Dinesh Dakua said it is more dangerous when one tries to harm others by suicide attacks than when one harms others by saving himself. It is hard for any government to prevent or combat a suicide attack. He stressed on adequate infrastructure and political solution to the burning problem.

Analysing the present situation Prof Amlan Jyoti Majumder mentioned that the world stood by India after the Mumbai incident. He demanded strict measures to combat the attacks made on this country.

Ex-MP Prasenjit Barman emphasised on the need of internal security of the country. All Indians should unite against any attack on this country and people, he said.

Editor of Uttar Prasanga, Debabrata Chaki announced that two more such symposiums will be organised to aware citizens to act as responsible ones. []
