Congress halts train at Cooch Behar
COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 8: Activists of Congress and its different wings like Youth Congress, Chhatra Parishad and INTUC halted the down Gitaldaha-Alipurduar passenger train at Cooch Behar railway station for about an hour today. They were agitating there in connection with several demands related with better railway service in this region.
District Congress president Mr Biren Kundu, vice-president Mr Dipak Neogi, general secretary Mr Sudha Ranjan Mukherjee, Youth Congress president Mr Avijit Dey Bhaumik, Chhatra Parishad president Mr Rakesh Chaudhury and other leaders spoke at the gathering organised at the station premises.
The Congress organised today's programme to demand plying of Mahananda Express and Uttar Banga Express extended upto Gitaldaha, introduction of an intercity express train along Gitaldaha-Siliguri section, stoppage of Garib Rath at New Cooch Behar railway station, revival of Cooch Behar-Kolkata train service through Bangladesh and parcel booking facility at Cooch Behar railway station.
The agitators submitted a memorandum containing their demands to the general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway and divisional railway manager of Alipurduar division through the stationmaster. []
