PTTI STUDENTS SIT-IN

PTTI : Indefinite dharna begins

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 29: The members of the All Bengal Primary Teachers Trainee Association (ABPTTA) started an indefinite dharna (sit-in demonstration) in front of the office of the District Primary School Council (DPSC) in Cooch Behar from today. They brought thala-bati-kambol (empty utensils and rugs) with them as a mark of protest.

ABPTTA president Mr Bhajan Barman said the agitators would not take food on their own during the dharna programme unless the authorities offer them food to eat. "We are ready to continue this movement till fulfilment of our demands. Moreover, we will start an indefinite hunger strike from 2 January", he said.

Md Noor Alam Hossain, Mr Ranjan Barman and others declared that they were not to lift their agitation till receiving of a specific assurance of employment.

Meanwhile, state Left Front chairman Mr Biman Bose who was in Cooch Behar yesterday had said that the government was trying to solve the problem of the trained students of the Primary Teachers Training Institutes (PTTI). Very soon a way out may be found, he hoped. []
