College clash

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 18: Violence occurred at Dinhata College in Cooch Behar today over filing of nomination papers for the ensuing Students' Union election of the college. About twenty persons including some students and policemen were injured during the clash. Six were sent to Dinhata sub-divisional hospital. Later, the agitated students staged a roadblock for sometime along Dinhata-Cooch Behar road in front of the college. []

 

Trinamul sit-in

COOCH BEHAR, Dec. 18: In support of their 23-point charter of demands the Trinamul Congress staged a daylong sit-in on the east bank of Sagardighi in Cooch Behar today. A large number of Trinamul supporters from different areas gathered there on the occasion. They also submitted a memorandum to the district magistrate.

 

Selling of fertilisers against fair price, measures to stop river erosion and construction of the building of the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya in Tufanganj at another place leaving the earmarked place to reinstate a haat were some of the demands of the Trinamul Congress. []
