COOCH BEHAR, Sept. 3: Chandana Sarkar, a girl-student of Sitalkuchi who was missing since yesterday afternoon after an incident of boat capsizal is yet to be traced out. The incident had occurred at Pancharhat village in Sitalkuchi of Cooch Behar.
Locals said a country boat was crossing the inflated Singimari river with about thirty passengers including four girl-students of Chhoto Salbari Jamiruddin High School on yesterday afternoon. The girls were returning their residences from school. Pancharhat village is under Chhoto Salbari gram panchayat of Sitalkuchi block. Singimari river is flowing beside Pancharhat village. Yesterday afternoon, when the boat came near the Pancharhat ferry-ghat the passengers reportedly tried to come down in haste. As a result the boat capsized. By swimming the other passengers arrived on the bank of the river but the four girl-students failed to save themselves. At last locals were able to rescue three of them. They were sent to health centres for treatment. But, since then, Chandana Sarkar, a student of Class VII went missing.
Search operation was done yesterday and today too but Chandana is still missing. On Wednesday afternoon, Mathabhanga SDPO Mr Ananda Roy said searching was going on to rescue the missing girl. []
