New sabhadhipati sworn in

 

COOCH BEHAR, July 8: As expected, Mr Dilip Biswas of the CPI-M took over the charge of sabhadhipati of Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad today. The outgoing sabhadhipati Mr Jnanendra Chandra Chanda handed over the charge to Mr Biswas.

 

After the swearing in ceremony the new sabhadhipati said he would put emphasis on rural electrification, pisciculture at the wetlands and scientific use of surface water to boost up irrigation facilities.

 

Mr Manindra Nath Barman of the Forward Bloc too took oath as the sahakari-sabhadhipati of the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad today. Prior to the swearing in ceremony the enthusiastic leaders and supporters of the CPI-M and the Forward Bloc took out a procession and marched towards the CZP office with Mr Biswas and Mr Barman.

 

Earlier, the CPI-M and the Forward Bloc had decided that an elected candidate of the CPI-M will be the sabhadhipati and an elected Forward Bloc candidate will get the sahakari-sabhadhipati's chair though the parties fought against each other in several seats in the recent panchayat elections. []
