Tufanganj to stay without water for 3 days

COOCH BEHAR, June 4: Citizens will not get water in Tufanganj municipal area at least three days from tomorrow. No alternative arrangement was made to maintain the water supply in the town.

Circulating a printed leaflet the chairman of Tufanganj Municipality Mr Subhas Bhawal and the assistant engineer of public health engineering, Tufanganj, Mr Rajat Biswas appealed to the citizens to co-operate with the authorities to better the facility.

Mr Bhawal said cleaning of water reservoirs and underground pipelines will begin from tomorrow. He made an appeal to the citizens to collect required volume of water for 72 hours by 3 p.m. of tomorrow. The residents should keep their water taps locked till 7 a.m. of the next day, as high-powered bleaching powder will be used to clean the water. After that time the residents should open the water taps to let the dirty water come out. Till release of further notice no one should drink or use the water, he said.

As no alternative arrangement was made to maintain the water supply in the town the residents got aggrieved. It is inhumane to keep the town dry for three days without making any alternative arrangement, a number of senior citizens said. On the otherhand, Tufanganj PHE sources claimed that the cleaning drive is a routine one. []
