COOCH BEHAR, June 10: The body of a missing villager who drowned in Kaljani river yesterday afternoon was recovered today.
It was learnt that the villagers of Kaljani trapped an ox yesterday that posed as a danger at Kaljani market area for the fast few days. Yesterday afternoon, the villagers caught and tied it and boarded it on a country boat with an intension to set it free near the Balaram Mandir of Bhuchungmari. A villager, Pranesh Das (22) was accompanying the ox on the boat. The boat capsized at the middle of the river. Since then Pranesh went missing. Today, his lifeless body was found on the bank of the river. No harm however happened to the ox. []
COOCH BEHAR, June 10: The Greater Cooch Behar Democratic Party (GCDP) is considering a plan to extend support to the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha (GJMM).
Reacting to the incidents of violence that occurred today in some areas of Dooars the president of the GCDP Mr Ashutosh Barma said the GJMM has every right to organise a mass meeting. It is their democratic right. The Government cannot curb the fundamental rights of the citizens. As the GCDP has a relation with the GJMM, it is its duty to extend support to the movement of the GJMM, Mr Barma said.
The GCDP leader said the executive committee of the GCDP would meet within a day or two to plan a programme in support of the GJMM. []
