COOCH BEHAR, June 14: Following incessant downpour at upper catchment areas and on the plains since Friday the water levels of the rivers that are flowing through Cooch Behar district are rising. Almost all the wards in Cooch Behar town turned waterlogged and made normal life disrupted.
Official sources said rainfall recorded in Cooch Behar in the last 24 hours was 345.70 mm. The rainfall in Tufanganj was 438.20 mm and in Mathabhanga 34.60 mm. The rain is still continuing and a forecast was there for heavier downpour in the next 24 hours.
Meanwhile, an unidentified body of a man (40) was recovered this morning from Amartala area in the town. Fire service personnel recovered the body and shifted it to MJN Hospital. It is suspected that the man was electrocuted when he contacted with a livewire. The body was sent for post-mortem. []
