Sandalwood seized

 

COOCH BEHAR, May 28: Acting on a tip-off revenue intelligence and central excise officials intercepted four Bangladesh bound trucks and seized 25-ton red sandalwood from them. Five persons were detained in this connection, police said.

 

It was learnt that four Bangladesh bound trucks loaded with mustered cakes arrived at the International Check Post at Changrabandha in Mekhliganj of Cooch Behar district from Siliguri on Wednesday afternoon. The officials intercepted the trucks and found pieces of red sandalwood beneath the mustered cakes in three trucks. The value of the seized items is worth Rs 5-crore in clandestine markets, officials said. []
