PR Das Munsi for all-party meet to end hill crisis

TAKAGACHH (Cooch Behar), May 2: Union minister and state Congress president Mr Priya Ranjan Das Munsi suggested that the state chief minister should convene an all-party meeting to find a way-out from the tangle in the Darjeeling hills following the Gorkha Jan Mukti Morcha's agitation.

Mr Das Munsi who came here for poll campaigning in favour of Congress candidates came down heavily on the Left Front run state government. He said, one has no right to snatch out democratic rights of any person or organisation by imposing Section 144. He was referring about the GJMM's demonstrations in Siliguri. The problems should be sorted out over the table and the chief minister should convene an all-party meeting, he said.

The Union minister alleged that several ministers are expressing separate opinions over the problems of Darjeeling hills. Mr Ashok Bhattacharya is not the chief minister of this state till now so he should not talk differently from Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee. Twin opinions on a single issue may deepen the crisis, he observed.

Mr Das Munsi clearly stated that the Congress has no objection in holding of meetings and rallies of the GJMM in Siliguri. One cannot solve the problem forcefully, he opined.

Criticising the Left Front run state government, Mr Das Munsi alleged that they failed to set up a second university, a second medical college and a second engineering college in north Bengal in its regime. Unemployed youths of this region are going to outer provinces to seek jobs but they are becoming prey of harassment on the pretext that they are Bangladeshi nationals. This practice should be stopped, he opined.

Recalling the 5 February police firing on Forward Bloc supporters in Dinhata, Mr Das Munsi said, it is uncertain when the judicial inquiry will be completed and when the state government take action following the report of the inquiry commission. []
