ELECTION

Polling done today too in Cooch Behar

 

COOCH BEHAR, May 19: The election at the polling station at Purba Chakiar Chhara Fifth Plan Primary School under Nishiganj gram panchayat of Mathabhanga-II block was postponed yesterday due to erroneous printing of the names of the contesting candidates in the ballot papers. Following State Election Commission's instruction the adjourned polling will be held there tomorrow, Cooch Behar DM Mr Rajesh Kumar Sinha said.

 

On the otherhand, polling was conducted till 9 a.m. today at two poling stations in this district. These two polling stations are : Kalmati of Bamanhat GP under Dinhata-II block and Somaliabos of Hemkumari GP under Haldibari block. Very slow polling process caused the delay at these places, the DM said.

 

In Cooch Behar district 89 percent polling was done, claimed the district magistrate. Mentionworthy, there were 1,875 polling stations for 14,81,019 voters in Cooch Behar district. The number of seats in the Zilla Parishad tier is 29, in 12 Panchayat Samitis the total number of seats is 353 and in 128 Gram Panchayats there are 1,668 seats. []
