Alipurduar women's college

COOCH BEHAR, May 20: The much-awaited women's college of Alipurduar got the government approval today. The secretary of the organising committee of the Alipurduar Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Mr Nirmal Das said the state education department approved commencement of functioning of the college. Classes will be held from the 2008-2009 academic session.

Mr Das, who is also the local MLA, said, the government sanctioned six posts of teachers including the post of principal. Eight posts of non-teaching staff were also sanctioned. He hoped that as the result of the Higher Secondary examination was declared today the girl-students of Alipurduar and adjoining areas would get an opportunity to continue their higher studies at this college. 500 to 800 girls may come here for admission, he expected.

As a new building of the college is yet to be constructed the classes will be held at Alipurduar Collegiate School till construction of the new building, Mr Das said. []
