Stop misuse of funds : AIYL
COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 10: Demanding adoption of proper planning to make the unemployed youths self-reliant, the Cooch Behar district unit of All India Youth League (AIYL) organised a sit-in at the district youth welfare office today. They also submitted a memorandum containing a three-point charter of demands to the district youth welfare officer. AIYL's district unit president Md Abdur Rauf, general secretary Mr Gopal Dey, Mr Jiban Pal and other leaders spoke at the gathering.
The AIYL leaders demanded implementation of plans for extending opportunities to the unemployed youths of this district to become self-employed and publication of the list of the beneficiaries. Decisions should be taken following discussions with representatives of all students and youth organisations of the district before organising any student-youth festival and misappropriation of funds should be stopped, they demanded. They also demanded supply of adequate sports materials to the registered clubs and publication of the list of the benefited clubs. []
Science fair and exhibition pulls crowd
COOCH BEHAR, Jan. 10: The two-day district level science fair and exhibition that was organised at Acharya Brajendra Nath Seal College premises ended today.
There were pavilions of different science departments and National Service Scheme (NSS) of ABN Seal College. Different interesting models presented by the students of different educational institutions of the district attracted curious visitors.
The departments of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology and Botany of the college – all had their mesmerising specialities on the dish catered. The 'dancing naphthalene', 'chemical volcano' of Chemistry pavilion, 'Newton Circle', 'traffic signalling system' of Physics pavilion, the use of medicinal plants, 'inoculation' of Botany pavilion, display of instant 'cross-section of different animals and insects', osteological display, DNA recognition of Zoology department, surprising number pattern, application of integral numbers in the making of numbers of widely used Master Card and Visa Card and ISBN of Mathematics pavilion drew up large crowd.
Installation of a telescope that aimed at sky watching and scanning the stars far off was a prime attraction of the Mathematics pavilion. Today's special attractions were display of a Tarantula found in this district and cross section of a Shark at the Zoology pavilion.
Interestingly enough, the budding scientists of different schools participated actively in the fair to make it a grand success.
On behalf of the organising college, the principal, Dr BK Roy said the programme was organised to impart scientific knowledge and spread awareness of science not only among the students and teachers but also among the common masses that are mostly illiterate, superstitious and economically backward.
