NBSTC on computer way

COOCH BEHAR, Nov. 1: North Bengal State Transport Corporation is going to computer savvy very soon. An ambitious initiative was taken to computerise functioning of all official works including accounts and ticket selling system. The process already started in Kolkata and Siliguri.

Disclosing the plan Md Saheb Ali Miah, managing director of NBSTC, said that they started developing of infrastructure in the organisation. Rs 20-lakh were allotted for the scheme. The new facility will be extended in all depots from Jorai to Ultadanga. Following the plan computerisation of all records will be done and it will be used to improve passenger amenity too. At the first phase computers will be introduced at division level and then it will be extended to depot level.

Mentionworthy, NBSTC has four divisions – Cooch Behar, Siliguri, Baharampur and Raiganj. There are twenty depots, two stations and three stands. The depots will get benefit of computerisation within a year, the MD said.

Not only introducing computers, the NBSTC is also going to improve the tourism industry in this region. They conducted some package tours that received good response from Dooars and hilly region including Darjeeling and Sikkim. Mr Miah said they opened information and ticket counters in Kolkata and Cooch Behar for the tourists. Four special comfortable buses were provided to run the tourism initiative. Presently these are old buses but within a fortnight brand new vehicles will replace them. The 32-seater luxury vehicles surely serve the tourists and visitors in a better way, the MD hopes.

The NBSTC managing director said they are trying to improve the quality of the vehicles by adding amenities. The buses are being painted with attractive colours. At the same time efforts are there so that passengers can identify the NBSTC buses from those of private operators. There will be the familiar Elephant logo on the body of all NBSTC buses. And, all these are being done without raising the ticket fare, he assured. []
