Border guards active against smuggling

COOCH BEHAR, Nov. 9: Since January of this year Border Security Force seized cattle, foreign garments and narcotics worth Rs 9.5-crore from different bordering areas in Cooch Behar district. The BSF also seized 943-kilogram ganja and apprehended 63 illegal entrants and smugglers infiltrated from Bangladesh. They also nabbed 134 Indian smugglers during the period, claimed DIG-BSF, Cooch Behar Sector, Mr PJ Rao.

The DIG-BSF inaugurated a colourful Diwali Mela at Gopalpur in Cooch Behar yesterday. The fair was organised by different units of BSF engaged under Cooch Behar Sector headquarter. As the jawans have to stay outside from their residences almost round the year the fair gave them an opportunity to enjoy the festival of light with their colleagues and family members. Mr Rao greeted the jawans and their families and wished them a happy Diwali. He praised the jawans for remaining vigilant and guarding the International border with utmost sincerity and dedication.

The DIG-BSF Mr Rao declared that as a part of BSF's civic action programme and also for the betterment of the border population a medical check-up camp will be organised on 28 November at Sitalkuchi. A blood donation camp will also be organised at Sonari, he said. []
